THE IMPORTANCE AND EFFECTS OF EMPLOYEE EXPERIENCE
Employee experience does not only address how an employee feels about the organization superficially. This concept has a broader perspective. It looks at whether an organization’s employee experience attracts the right people and whether it provides an environment where they can do their best work. Proper employee experience directly contributes to the success of the organization. As a leader, your job is to ensure that the overall perceptions of employees encourage them to bring out their best across your organization, department, or team. Happy employees don’t necessarily mean they perform highly. Employee engagement is about them feeling they’re doing meaningful work and that their expectations are met. Challenging, demanding, and even exhausting jobs can still be engaging for employees. As a leader, when you establish a framework that understands employee expectations and rewards their contributions, employees can love doing such jobs.
Teaching is one of the toughest professions; they face many challenges such as long hours, budget cuts, pressures from parents and administrators, and the difficulty of educating students of all kinds. Yet, many teachers do this job feeling exhausted and cannot think of another job. Why? Meaning and impact. For many teachers, the employee experience is precisely what they want. Also, for many, teaching is connected with enlightened self-interest, realizing that serving others is ultimately good for themselves too.
Having engaged employees is beneficial for a company, school, or non-profit organization. An engaged workforce means higher customer satisfaction, customer loyalty, stronger growth, and higher profits. It also means lower staff turnover and reduced recruitment costs. According to research, engaged employees have healthier lifestyles, experience fewer chronic health issues, and participate more in company health programs. This means reduced health costs along with less work stress. If employees are also happier and more successful in their personal lives, that’s an added bonus.
